An Introduction
This capstone project was developed through my work in the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) program, which provides a professional development opportunity for teachers to learn how to globalize their classroom teaching and learning. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX, and involves an on-line graduate course, the creation of this resource guide, an international visit to one of six destinations (Brazil, Ghana, India, Morocco, and Ukraine),
and pre and post-travel Global Education Symposiums. Global education teaches students the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that they need in order to participate in an interdependent world. The students learn skills and perspectives about global issues and responsibilities, and develop an appreciation of cultural diversity that helps them become lifelong active participants in our global community. This capstone is designed to assist the educator in learning about global education, finding resources to help in the immersion of global education within their classroom, and supporting them in providing global perspectives, skills, and knowledge to their students. Documents and videos on global education developed during the on-line course can be found on the Mindmap tab. Additional resources including unit plans and PBLs are available on the supplementary tabs. The capstone is about my personal journey in learning about global education. It includes a link to my travel blog from my international experience in Ukraine.
